Listen In allows the caster to attune the air and awaken nearby spirits to act as unseen couriers of sound. By weaving Air and Spirit together, the caster forms a subtle auditory link to a chosen point within range, allowing them to hear sounds as if they were physically present at that location.
The caster may target any point they are aware of or can reasonably imagine. Sounds originating from that area are perceived clearly, though they remain subject to natural limitations such as distance, background noise, and physical obstructions. Thick walls, sealed spaces, or magically warded areas may muffle or distort what is heard.
The spell does not create or amplify sound. It only transmits what naturally occurs within the targeted area.
Other magi can detect Listen In while it is being cast or maintained, sensing disturbances in the flow of air and spirit consistent with active listening magic.
Non-magical individuals may resist the spell with Magic Resistance. A successful resistance prevents sounds from their immediate area from being transmitted, often accompanied by a vague sensation of being watched or overheard.
Listen In requires active concentration to maintain. Loss of focus, unconsciousness, or disruption of the spell immediately severs the auditory link. The spell grants no visual information and cannot isolate specific voices beyond what the caster could normally discern by sound alone.
