This is the ability to open locks without the necessary key, e.g. with hairpins, wire etc. The Roll is the characters’ skill minus the locks value.

Lock Picking is the skill of opening locks without the proper key using specialized tools or improvised materials such as wire or hairpins. It reflects dexterity, mechanical understanding, and patience.

More complex locks are designed to resist tampering and require higher skill to defeat. The roll for Lock Picking is calculated as the character’s skill minus the lock’s difficulty value, making advanced locks a significant challenge.

Repeated attempts, poor tools, or rushed conditions can damage a lock or alert nearby guards. Skilled practitioners learn when to persist and when to abandon an attempt.
